Dear Lords and Ladies,

Do have a magnificent welcome to AISMUN XVI. I have been bestowed the immense honor of presiding this year’s most innovative proposal for AISMUN: the History and Politics of Westeros committee. A couple of months back, I was presented with the idea of proposing a fictional committee for the model, based on the World of Ice and Fire. Despite my initial reluctance on the possible reception of such an unorthodox initiative, against all odds, the History and Politics of Westeros committee was accepted and praised. At that very moment, I knew I had to step in as President. A Song of  Ice and Fire has undoubtedly been one of the most impactful and enriching experiences in my life. In a world brimming with stories about heroes and role models stuffed to the bone with optimistic thematics and promises of grandeur, the TV series Game of Thrones was not only a breath of fresh air, but most importantly a lesson. A story not about role models, but about people. Flawed beings struggling to survive in an equally flawed and cruel world. A world with life and death, choices and consequences. In each character, one can learn and understand different aspects of humanity, morals, and philosophies, witnessing the juxtapositions of honor against love, vices against progress, what is just against what is right. And, ironically, in seeing the plot unfold and reading the characters’ bliss and dread and growth, they end up becoming role models unlike any others.  Now, with the chance of joining my passion for A Song of Ice and Fire with my passion for oratory, I stand before you all with the invitation to enjoy yourselves and unleash your heart out in this committee. I expect nothing but the very best from all of you, and hopefully, my love for this initiative might be reciprocated tenfold.  If you have any inquiries, send all your ravens to my email.

Distinguished Lords and Ladies,

I am privileged and honored to welcome you to AISMUN XVI.

It is of my utmost content and gratification being able to contribute in this trascendental and innovative experience, and especially, sharing it with those as enthusiastic and passionate as myself. The  broad fictional universe of “A Song of ice and Fire,” whose author is George R R Martin, is one that covers and reaches in complexity and depth political and philosophical conflicts, while constructing the innumerable perspectives that its amplitude deserves; hence it is perfect and pure. A regular misconception of this fictitious world  is the raw notion that it is a politically frivolous one, nonetheless, this novel/series brings a lot to the table regarding this area. Through a well-structured plot along with complex deepened dialogues, political disputes such as the value of diplomacy, the quotidianity of corruption in politics, and power itself, are regarded. For more than four years, I have been immersed in this fantasy. This universe is an escape that I utterly wish was permanent. It became one of the most crucial landmarks in my life, up to such point that it forged my philosophical approach of life itself, and a fictional world became my reality.

For these reasons, it is my desire that this committee succeeds in order to have memorable experience from which we all learn from. My expectations from myself and for all the lords and ladies are set extremely high. In order for us to surpass this limit, as directives of this committee alongside the secretary general, we will do everything in our power to help you develop or ameliorate skills such as critical thinking. It is our aim to encourage every member to get involved and portray devotedly each lordship’s ideals. If you have any doubts regarding the guide or the committee, it will be my pleasure to help you at any moment; don’t hesitate to reach out to me.

Westeros has been plunged into a bloody conflict after the events following King Robert Baratheon's death. Wolves fight lions and stags fight each other. Times of turmoil such as this cry out for a strong ruler. Proclaimed Kings are reaching for their sworn bannermen, with the sole purpose of sitting on the Iron Throne. With the devastation that is being rained upon the Seven Kingdoms, Lords and Ladies upon the vast Westeros continent have gathered; hence they are to address this problematic in a diplomatic manner for the sake of the Seven Kingdoms. Such a reunion begs the questions: Who is the rightful King? Who would be the best ruler? How will justice be served for all Houses?

News has come from Essos. Daenerys of House Targaryen, First of Her Name, The Unburnt, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Breaker of Chains and Mother of Dragons has freed Slaver's Bay and now sails to Westeros with an army of Unsullied, Dothraki riders, Second Sons, a massive fleet and three fully grown dragons. It is the duty of the lords and ladies of The Seven Kingdoms of Westeros to gather up; for it is of paramount importance to determine the continent's fate. How will her invasion be dealt with? Will the Targaryen dynasty be put to an end? Does she have a rightful claim upon the Iron Throne and the Crown? Is it possible to defeat her, or is appealing to her a better choice? Or is her cause, perhaps, worth following?
