Welcome to the Altamira International School Model of United Nations! My name is Sebastian Alvarez, and I am very excited to meet all of you in the committee.
I am honored to be able to have the privilege to preside over the Special Session on Terrorism.
I believe being granted the title of President comes with great responsibility, as well as some duties including those such as assessing, advising, and being a pillar of support for delegates as they engage in this enlightening experience.
I hope the topic of choice will allow you to voice with much eagerness and decisiveness your interventions which I expect to be of utmost quality. Regardless of my own expectations, what I desire most is for all delegates to be able to participate without any sort of shame or fear, as this life-time experience is one that although somewhat difficult to engage with, allows for plenty learning opportunities in critical thinking, problem solving, and oratory flexibility.
The guide will assist you with all information necessary for the basics about the topic, so you do not feel as if you were lost during this process.
Do not hesitate to contact me for inquiries and or doubts.
I wish you the best of luck in our encounter at AISMUN 2019!

about the committee
A special session is an unscheduled meeting of the United Nations General Assembly to make urgent recommendations on a particular issue. In this case, the committee will be a Special Session on Terrorism. These are in rare occurrence, as there have only been 10 special session, in the United Nations history. These can run for many days, but the only to have been resumed more than once was the tenth special session. This means that the Special Session will span across a number of meetings, correlating to the fact that the Special Session on Terrorism, will only handle one topic, which is the disruption of terrorist financial networks. This topic treats the self-efficiency of terrorist groups which has managed to keep itself afloat even after the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria peaked in approximately 2014. Ever since, regardless of its loss of power and fighters, its networks have achieved a global reach. With the work of the United Nations, it is possible to intervene in these financial networks, and reduce its amount of potential attacks to any nation.
